Second-round notebook – Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open
* A total of 73 players made the cut, which came at 4-under 138.* Troy Matteson and Chad Campbell moved to 13-under to claim a one shot lead over Matt Kuchar, Bob Heintz, Martin Laird and Ryan Moore after the second-round.
* In his last 12 October starts dating back to 2006, Matteson has seven top-10 finishes. He has been in the top-30 in nine of his last 12 October starts.
* Matteson is No. 132 on the money list. He has not finished lower than 89th on the final money list since joining the PGA TOUR in 2006.
* Troy Matteson has held one other 36-hole lead/co-lead in his TOUR career. He held the co-lead at the 2007 AT&T Classic before finishing T3.
* Matteson and Kuchar both play out of the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
* Former UNLV golfers Campbell (-9/62) and Moore (-8/63) shot two of the best rounds of the day. John Mallinger also shot a 62 a day after shooting a 72.
* Campbell’s last 62 came at the 2008 Travelers Championship where he finished T27. Campbell’s previous best round in Las Vegas was a 63 in 2007 when he finished T74.
* Campbell’s best finish at the Shriners came last year (T3). He is making his seventh start at this event.
* Campbell has had four or more top-10 finishes on TOUR five of the last six years. He has recorded only two top-10s this season (Playoff loss at the Masters and T9 at the 50thBob Hope Classic).
* Campbell has held the 36-hole lead five other times in his career. He won one of those leads at the 2006 Bob Hope Classic. He has never finished lower than T3 when holding the 36-hole lead/co-lead.
* Heintz’s best finishes on TOUR are T5s at the 2005 Valero Texas Open, 2007 U.S. Bank Championship and 2007 Canadian Open.
* Heintz, who got in the field on Wednesday as the third alternate, missed the cut in his last Las Vegas start in 2007 and finished T58 in 2005.
* Ryan Moore (63) matched his personal-best round on TOUR. He also had 63s at the 2005 Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (T16) and 2007 Fry’s Electronics Open (T6).
* Moore is making his fifth start at the Shriners with two top-25 finishes (T16 in 2005 and T24 in 2008).
* Matt Kuchar shot a second-round 7-under 64 to move to 12-under for the tournament. Kuchar picked up his second PGA TOUR victory two weeks ago at the Turning Stone Resort Championship.
* Kuchar has six straight rounds in the 60s, dating back to a 75 in the final round of the BMW Championship.
* Kuchar is playing the back-nine at 11-under par through the first two rounds.
* After his wife Sara gave birth to their third son (Jett) last night at 9:44 p.m. at San Martin Hospital in Las Vegas, Scott Piercy went out and shot a 4-under to move to 11-under for the tournament (T7).
* Martin Laird (-12/T3), who finished No. 125 on the 2008 money list in his rookie season, is looking for his second top-2 finish in the state of Nevada this season. Laird finished T2 earlier this year at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. Last season, Laird finished T4 at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open and finished T47 at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
* Playing in his first PGA TOUR event as a professional, 20-year-old Rickie Fowler shot a 7-under to move to 11-under for the tournament. Fowler birdied four straight holes (No. 13-16).
* Fowler played five PGA TOUR events as an amateur, making two cuts. Fowler finished T60 at the U.S. Open in 2008.
* Parker McLachlin (65) shot his best round of the season. His career-best round (62) came last year in Nevada when he won the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open.
* Finishing on the front-side, Ryuji Imada recorded six straight 3s in the second round (Nos. 4-9) capped off with an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole.

* Stuart Appleby (T50), No. 130 on the money list, has not finished below No. 55 on the final TOUR money list since his rookie year in 1996 (12 straight seasons). Appleby, who has only one top-10 finish this season, has had three or more top 10s every season since 1996 when he had one. Appleby has two top-25 finishes this season, which is the worst of his career. His five top 25s in 1996 were his previous career low.
* The PGA TOUR’s Fall Series events are a time for players to move into the top 125 on the money list and earn full exempt status on the TOUR in 2010. Australian Matt Jones is in the No. 125 spot coming into the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. * No rookie has won on TOUR this year – something that hasn’t happened since 1998, when Steve Flesch won Rookie of the Year honors. At 44th on the money list, Australian Marc Leishman leads all rookies. Leishman was the only rookie to play in THE TOUR Championship and finished 20th in the FedExCup standings. * J.J. Henry carded an eagle on No. 16 to move into a first place tie for the Kodak Challenge lead with Kevin Streelman at 14-under. For the second straight day, perfect weather conditions favored the pros on the 560-yard par-5 16th at TPC Summerlin, which ranked as the easiest hole on the course. Henry sunk a 22 foot putt to join several top Kodak Challenge contenders to eagle hole #16 today. Matt Bettencourt and D.J. Trahan also recorded eagles to move to 12-under and 11-under respectively in the Kodak Challenge.
* Leif Olson (illness) and Cliff Kresge withdrew after the first round.
